Getlink has just announced the launch of a new unaccompanied freight service for carriers. Its capacity: 8,300 trailers per year.
From September 18, 2021, Getlink will operate a new unaccompanied freight service between France and Great Britain via the Channel Tunnel.
For its haulage customers, the trailers will leave from the Getlink terminals in Calais and Folkestone.
Doubling the share of rail
With a capacity of 8,300 trailers per year, this new service is part of an overall objective to reduce CO2 emissions.
"The modal shift contributes to the French government's objectives of doubling the share of rail in freight transport by 2030, as well as to the ambition to decarbonize freight presented by the British government in its Green Industrial Revolution Plan," Getlink said in a press release.
